Going For Platinum Part 10 - Barbados and Hilton
The Hilton Barbados - Front Entrance
For my short 2 night stay on the island nation of Barbados I selected the Hilton. It is one of the only major chain hotels in the country and it is still a relatively new property. The price seems to average USD200-USD250 per night, not exactly cheap but I found the hotel to be of a high standard. It's about a USD25 taxi ride from the airport and takes just 20 to 30 minutes to get there at most.
The hotel features it's own beach front at Needham's Point and is about a 20 minute walk to the main township of Bridgetown. There are a couple of restaurants within a short walk, and a gas station at the end of the road where you can buy general items at a cheaper price than within the hotel.
The hotel features several food and beverage outlets as well as 24 hour room service. Room service mains are approximately 20 US dollars. I had a room service club sandwich and mango cheesecake on the first night.
The food was pretty tasty and arrived within about 40 minutes of ordering. Tipping was appreciated but I didn't feel it was absolutely expected.
The following morning I took a stroll along the beach from Needham's point into Bridgetown.
Unfortunately I was visiting Bridgetown on a Sunday, and almost nothing at all is open. It was quite a ghost town apart from a few tourists at a couple of open restaurant/bar's. I was hassled quite a few times by taxi drivers trying to take me places including one who offered to take me to a beach with naked ladies...
Back at the hotel I went to the poolside bar/restaurant and had a late lunch of a pork wrap with fries and a cocktail containing the local Barbados rum. Yummy!
From about 5pm is Happy Hour at the pool bar with a lot of cocktails half price (about 4 to 5 USD each). Good value indeed and it was quite fun just sipping on cocktails and watching the sun set.
Overall I really enjoyed my stay at Barbados Hilton and I would choose this property again when visiting Barbados.
